What to expect when you visit Whitehall

WELCOME!  It may have been that you have been invited to visit us by a friend, colleague, or relative.  Or perhaps Google sent you our way!  This page is designed to put your mind at ease if you happen to be visiting with us for the first time.  We know that an unfamiliar place can be intimidating, so let us tell you what you can expect when you honor us with a visit.

We're thrilled you're here

We consider you an Honored Guest!  You may be asking: What is expected of me?  Nothing at all!  You are welcome to participate, but don't feel obligated to; just observe if that is your choice.  We have Bible classes for all age groups, an interpreter for our dear members, and a nursery so you may attend to the needs of your child.

The Setting

From the moment you set foot in our doors, you will be in good hands.  There will be a greeter to say hello and give you any information you need.  Looking for a class?  Ask your greeter.  They will be more than happy to help you in any way possible.  If classes are over, the greeter can direct you to the auditorium.  There are no reserved seats, so feel free to sit anywhere you choose.

Singing

You'll find a songbook in front of you when you sit down in the auditorium.  Song leaders will announce the number in the song book when it's time to sing.  We pray that you find the singing at our congregation to be a meaningful and powerful type of worship to God and that you feel comfortable enough to
join in with us.

Prayers

There will be at least a couple of times we address our Heavenly Father in prayer.  You may even hear prayers offered for specific needs or people who are struggling with various illnesses.  If you feel that you want to request a prayer, don't hesitate to let someone know.  We are here for you.

Lord's Supper

Every Sunday, the Lord's Supper is included in our worship service.  It serves as a memorial of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross.  The 1st century church observed this on the first day of the week (Acts20:7) and we continue to do so.  Also at this time, we will take up a collection as instructed in 1 Cor. 16:1-2.  As our guest, you are not expected to make a donation.  Feel perfectly comfortable passing the collection plate on down the row!

Preaching

You will notice that the preacher doesn't have a title.  He won't be referred to as Pastor or Reverend.  You can simply call him by his first name (Kevin).  He won't be wearing any special clothing that sets him apart.  We believe that the ground at the foot of the cross is level for ALL.  All people are special in the kingdom of God!  The sermon will likely last 30 minutes.  We think you'll find it refreshingly
Bible-centered.

Invitation

At the end of the sermon, the preacher will extend an invitation.  This is a time for those who feel moved to do so, to make a commitment to God or to request prayer support.  If you feel yourself wishing to respond to this invitation, we encourage you to do so without fear of being singled out or judged.  There may be several who respond, or none.  Some may respond for baptism, some to confess sins,
some to ask for prayers.

Afterward

You are our Honored Guest!  We would love to get to know you so please stick around for a few minutes after services.  We hope that we will have done our job to make you as comfortable as possible in an unfamiliar place.  Thank you for considering a visit to the Whitehall Church of Christ.  May God bless you!
